Research

George has been involved in herpetological research for the past seven years, working throughout the tropics. George’s current work is focussing on the effect of anthropogenic changes affecting snake populations in Central America. He is currently working through the School of Biological Sciences, Plymouth University and the Cusuco Forest Ecology Research Network (CFERN), Operation Wallacea. He has published in international research journals such as Herpetolgical Review, Current Herpetology, Mesoamerican Herpetology, International Reptile Conservation Fund, Sauria and is a contributor for several species on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Critically Endangered Salamander Predation

Oedipina tomasi is a species of conservation concern due to the presence of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (chytrid fungus) in the type locality and encroaching deforestation. Due to its fossorial tendencies, O. tomasi has proved difficult to study and as such, little is known about its natural history and ecology, including predators. Here we report a novel predation event on an adult O. tomasi by Rhadinella montecristi (Monte Cristi Graceful Brown Snake; Dipsadidae).
